Chaplin's World is a museum dedicated to the life and work of the great Charlie Chaplin who has lived for more than 20 years in Corsier sur Vevey, Switzerland. He died at his residence on the Christmas night of 1977. Chaplin loved his and his family life in Switzerland, he was always present at local festivals, local circus shows or cinema. Throughout his time in Switzerland, Chaplin lived with his family in the sumptuous Corsier villa with a magnificent view of the Alps. Today, the house and the surrounding park form the Chaplin's World Museum, a place where you will find the story of the life and of the movies of the great Charlie Chaplin. Why Chaplin moved to Switzerland?

Charles Spencer Chaplin, better known as Charlie Chaplin, is one of the greatest actors and directors in the history of cinema. He created the famous character the Tramp and is recognized for his films: City Lights, The Kid, Modern Times, or The Dictator. In the early 1900s he traveled to the USA with various British theater and circus troops, and since 1910 the actor has settled in the US. Over the years, he was accused of communist sympathies, so that in 1952 when Chaplin left for London for the premiere of his film Limelight, J. Edgar Hoover along with the Emigration Service succeeded in suspending his right to rejoin the country. Hearing about this, Chaplin did not insist to return to the US, but chose to move, with his family, to Switzerland, to Corsier sur Vevey in the current home-museum. Here the actor lived a happy and quiet life, spending a lot of time with his family and enjoying the visits of his numerous friends (Alberst Einstein, Clara Haskil, etc.).

The Chaplin's World Museum is divided into 3 major areas: The Park, The Manoir, and The Studio. The Park is a beautiful green meadow full of flowers and majestic trees that surround the villa. Sitting on a bench, you can have a superb view of the Alps and the city of Vevey. The Park is the place where Chaplin made long walks thinking about his movies and talking to friends. It was Chaplin's favorite playground with his children.

The Manoir is the actual house in which the Chaplin family lived. Inside, there are many family-owned furniture pieces, Chaplin's various manuscripts and scripts are available, and the whole house is arranged for you to understand how they were living in the house. Inside, to represent Chaplin's life and customs more authentic, you'll find many wax statues representing Chaplin, his wife, or Albert Einstein. Also, on giant screens there are pictures of his films or different ancient news so you can enter into the atmosphere of Chaplin's times.

The third element of the Chaplin's World Museum in Vevey is The Studio. From my point of view is the pearl of the museum. At the beginning you will enter into a small cinema where you can watch a short film about Chaplin's life. Then, just like a magic trick, the screen will rise and you can physically enter into the world of Chaplin's movies. You can relive the experiences of his films, you will see the famous sceneries and you will find wax statues of some of the most famous comedy actors. The studio is a story in itself, you will feel like an actor who has come back in time and plays in the most famous movies of all time. You can dress the tramp famous suit, you'll take pictures with Laurel and Hardy or you can get a haircut from Chaplin.

Chaplin's World is, probably, one of the most beautiful museums dedicated to a personality. It is a museum full of life, sensitivity, art, film, love, joy of life. Go visit the museum!

Tickets prices for Chaplin's World:

• Adults (starting from 16 years old): 24 CHF/ person 
• Children (6-15 years old): 18 CHF/person (Kids under 6 years have free entrance)
• Seniors (over 60 years old) and students: 22 CHF/person
• Visitors with disabilities: adults 22 CHF/person; children 16 CHF/person.

Opening hours:

The museum is open 7 days per week from 10 am to 6 pm. This year the museum will have a exceptional open day on Christmas (25th of December 2017) to commemorate 40 years since Charlie Chaplin passes away. It will be open from 2 pm to 6 pm.

How to get to Chaplin's World

The museum is very close to the city of Vevey, on the shore of Lake Leman. From the city you can reach the museum by foot (around 50 minutes from the center), by bike or by taking bus 212 and get off at Chaplin station. You can also go there by car, the museum having a large parking place (2 CHF/hour). You can also go by train: travel to Vevey station and then take bus 212.

At Chaplin's World you will find a nice coffee place, a restaurant and a very nice souvenir shop.
