Almost every town in Switzerland organizes a Christmas market where people can enjoy a cup of hot wine, eat local food, enjoy time with their friends and, most importantly, make their kids happy. Most of the big Christmas markets in Switzerland in 2017 will open their gates and light up the Christmas tree in November. Montreux Christmas Market 2017 (Montreux Noël 2017)

The Montreux Christmas market is the main event on Lake Leman Riviera in the winter. Everybody is coming here to enjoy the music, the food, the hot wine and the local terroir products.
The Montreux Christmas market 2017 will take place between November 23rd and December 24th 2017. 
Visitors will be able to enjoy many attractions:
  • The Christmas market: in this 23rd edition more than 160 traders will be there: craftsmen, hot wine, local food and thousands of gifts ideas.
  • The Christmas light show: it will happen in 2017 for the first time, so it should be really interesting and magic. A fabulous 3D light show will take place every night, hourly, from 17.00 to 21.00. The light show will be projected on the façade of Montreux Palace hotel.
  • The house of Santa Claus: situated in the magical place in Rochers-de-Naye at an altitude of more than 2000 meters looking over Montreux. A special, dedicated train will take you and your family there in order for your kids to meet Santa and to tell him their list of gifts.
  • The guest of Honor at Montreux Christmas Market 2017 is Portugal. So you will be able to enjoy they traditions, music, culture and of course the tasty Portuguese food accompanied by their liquorish wines.

Interlaken Christmas Market 2017 (Interlaken Winterzauber)

The Interlaken Christmas Market 2017 will take place between 16th and 26th of December 2017.
The Interlaken Christmas Market is a magical Christmas experience in a stunning location. Interlaken's town center will be transformed into a Christmas market landscape with an array of regional products and many craftsmen that will present their products. The lights, the trees, the city architecture and the surrounding mountains will form a breath-taking landscape that will give the Christmas magic to this cozy Christmas market.

Basel Christmas Market 2017 (Der Basler Weihnachtsmarkt 2017)

The Basel Christmas Market is one of the most important ones from all Switzerland. In 2017 the Christmas market from Basel will be open from 23rd of November to 23rd of December 2017. The market will take place in two areas: Münsterplatz and Barfüsserplatz, in the ceter of the city. The entire Old Town will be decorated with dedicated Chrismas lights, decorations and ornaments. A grandiose Christmas tree will be placed in Münsterplatz with ornaments created by the well-known decorator Johann Wanner.

More than 180 traders and artisans will present their goods for sale in small, country-style wooden chalets. Culinary goods also abound with waffles, genuine Basel Läckerli (a local type of gingerbread), delicious Swiss raclette and fondue or the very popular grilled sausages.

Lausanne Christmas Market 2017 ( Bô Noël 2017)

The Lausanne Christmas markets in 2017 will be organized based on a new concept whose role is to make a larger number of people enjoy the magic of Christmas. This means that there will not be just one square where the Lausanne Christmas market will be organized, but there will be plenty of them. All the Old Town will be decorated for Christmas and events will take place in Place Palud (where the Christmas tree will be placed), Place de la Louve (where you and your kids can meet Santa), Place Pepinet, Place Saint-Francois, Place de L’Europe, Terrasse de Bel-Air and Quartier du Flon.
The Lausanne Christmas Market 2017 will open on the 22nd of November, at 18.00, in all the locations mentioned above. And it will last until 31st of December 2017.

Lugano Christmas Market 2017 (Natale in Piazza a Lugano)

Come and see the Italian Christmas spirit in the canton of Ticino!
The Lugano Christmas market 2017 will take place from November 23rd 2017 to January 7th 2018, thus being the longest (in time) Christmas Market is Switzerland.

Starting with November 23rd the center of the city will become a Christmas village full of lights, decorations, ornaments, sounds and colours. The most magical festival of the year will be celebrated with the market, a children’s village, live music events, entertainment, the New Year’s Eve open-air party and many other events that will fill the city with the magic of Christmas up until 7 January.

The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place in Riforma Square, on December 1st at 18.00.  ornaments.


Start your preparation for the Christmas markets in Switzerland with a tasty recipe for hot wine:

At medium heat boil 1 liter of red wine together with a 1 teaspoon of all spice, half teaspoon of cardamom, 1 teaspoon of cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks and 100 grams of sugar. Maintain the medium heat so that alcohol does not evaporate. Add a small orange cut into cubes and boil until the sugar melts and then remove the cinnamon sticks. In each cup put 30 ml of digestive/brandy/cognac and then pour the boiled wine and start the celebration!
